Drama & Theatre
Your theater students have studied the scripts. On a Drama & Theatre tour they see actors perform on Broadway, take class from working professionals, and step onto a stage of their own.
52+ years of custom educational travel · Trusted by school groups in all 50 states · SYTA, IATAN, ARC, and NTA accredited
Your program sets the direction. We build the trip around the shows you’re staging and the skills you’re teaching, on the dates that work for you, whether that’s Broadway in New York, the storefront theaters of Chicago, or the West End in London.
The challenge theatre directors face:Â
Planning a theatre trip is a lot to handle when you still need to prepare for this year’s school production. The best shows sell out months ahead, professional workshops are hard to book without industry contacts, and stringing it all into a schedule that fits a school calendar can feel like directing a second show. Do it yourself and you’re managing tickets, buses, hotels, meals, and permission slips while keeping a group of students engaged in a busy city. Book a generic package and you get a trip built for no one in particular, with little connection to the work your program is doing. Either way, the trip that could have been the highlight of the year turns into one more thing to manage.

What a real theatre trip looks like:
Day 1
The group starts with a guided tour of New York led by a local expert, taking in Times Square, the Broadway Theater District, and the landmarks that made the city the center of American theater. It’s a chance to get oriented and feel the scale of the place before the performances begin.Â
Day 2
A backstage tour of a Broadway theater takes students behind the curtain, from the wings to the dressing rooms, to see how a professional production runs when the audience isn’t watching. The afternoon leaves time to explore the city or visit a spot like Lincoln Center. In the evening, the group takes their seats for their first Broadway show
Day 3
The morning brings a workshop led by a working Broadway performer, where students train in the same techniques the professionals use, whether that’s acting, voice, or movement. It’s the heart of the trip, the moment students stop watching and start doing. After free time in the afternoon, the group sees a second Broadway show that night.
Day 4
One last session ties the trip back to the work your program is staging this year, connecting the performances students saw to what they’re building on your stage. The rest of the day is open to explore the city before heading home.Â
Custom Theatre experiences
Past Tours
Advanced Drama Class ·
New York
Students see Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, then take a morning workshop with a working actor. They watch the craft at its highest level, then try it themselves the next day. What they learn connects straight back to the scenes they’re rehearsing at home.
Shakespeare Unit ·
London
Students see West End productions and take a workshop with a company that stages Shakespeare for a living. They visit the historic theaters where the plays have been performed for centuries. The words they study in class come to life on stage, in the city where it all began.
Musical Theater Program · Chicago
A cast preparing a spring musical spends its days in the city’s famous storefront theaters and in a professional dance or vocal workshop. A behind-the-scenes tour of a working theater shows them how a full production comes together, from the pit to the wings.
MAKING AN IMPACT
The Experience
On tour, students see world-class performances on Broadway or the West End, then work with the professionals behind them in the rehearsal room. Many take a stage of their own and perform for a new audience. Along the way they get a look behind the curtain at everything that makes a production run. They come back with a clearer sense of the craft, new techniques to use, and the experience of having performed on a professional stage.

The Difference a Custom Trip Makes
A packaged tour hands you a fixed schedule and leaves you to make your group fit it. We build the trip around your group instead, so the itinerary matches your goals, your dates, and the way your students learn best.
I went on my first Educational Tours trip in 1996 and again in 1999 as a high school student. Because of the core memory I wanted to give this opportunity to the next generation. This last year I started up the history tour back in the local towns high school and contacted Todd and his team. And you can see they have many years of experience and connections. They were so easy to work with and the communication was amazing. They did so much work and made this trip a success. We are looking forward to doing it again!

Last weekend we took our choir to Tuacahn with Educational Tours and had the best experience! They took care of everything – payments, tickets, dinners, workshops, hotels — all for such a reasonable price. Our group had a flawless trip. We would definitely do it again!

How far in advance should we start planning?
The sooner the better, especially for theatre. Broadway and West End shows and professional workshops book up months ahead, so we recommend reaching out about a year out when you can, though we’ll do everything possible on a shorter timeline. The sooner the better, especially for theatre.
